What a financial advisor in Singapore actually does

Advisors help individuals, families and businesses plan protection, retirement, investments and legacy, and implement the solutions. Day to day that means conversations, analysis, presentations, paperwork, claims support and reviews. The strongest advisors are educators and relationship-builders first; product knowledge is the easy part.

You work as a self-employed representative of a licensed FA firm — with the freedom that brings and the responsibility to build your own client base.

Earning potential and progression

Income is largely commission-based, which means uncapped upside and real variability, especially in the first two years. Advisors who follow a disciplined activity system and join a platform with strong lead-generation grow faster. Professional progression is visible: MDRT membership, Court of the Table and Top of the Table are internationally recognised milestones, and leadership tracks lead to manager and director roles.

Affinity advisors have gone from around $300K to over $530K in personal gross revenue after joining, and the group crossed the $5.2M team gross revenue milestone. These are real, historical outcomes — not guarantees.

Who thrives in this career

  • Fresh graduates who want a professional career with early responsibility and a clear development path.
  • Career switchers from teaching, engineering, sales, hospitality or banking who want more ownership and impact.
  • Experienced advisors who have outgrown their current agency and want marketing, seminars and technology behind them.
  • Leaders who want to build and mentor a team within a culture that takes both people and standards seriously.

Why advisors join Affinity Group

Affinity surrounds every advisor with five systems. Heart is culture and mentorship. Pulse is performance coaching and review. Surge is personal branding — including our compliance-checked Surge Engine content platform. Ignite is seminars and speaking opportunities that put you in front of prospects. Nexus is technology, from CRM to custom AI tools. A full-time operations team handles marketing, events, partnerships and administration.

The result is that advisors do not grow alone. Our breakthrough stories — Adrian, Travis, Nicholas, Jason and others — are on the Careers page, alongside a 60-second fit check and a private conversation with a leader.

FAQ

Questions we hear most often.

Do I need a finance degree to become a financial advisor in Singapore?+

No. You typically need to be at least 21, hold a minimum of four GCE 'O' Level credits or equivalent (a diploma or degree in any field is common), pass the required CMFAS examinations and satisfy MAS fit-and-proper criteria. Backgrounds from teaching to engineering succeed in this career.

How much do financial advisors earn in Singapore?+

Income is commission-based and varies widely. First-year advisors often earn less than their previous salary while building a client base; established advisors frequently earn well into six figures, and MDRT qualification is a recognised benchmark of a strong practice.

Is a financial advisor career stable?+

It is self-employed and performance-based, so it rewards discipline. Platforms that provide leads through seminars, marketing support and coaching materially reduce the early volatility — which is exactly what Affinity is built to do.

Can I switch careers into financial advisory in my 30s or 40s?+

Yes. Career switchers bring networks and life experience that clients value. Several Affinity advisors joined from other industries and have gone on to MDRT and leadership roles.

How do I start?+

Take the fit check on our Careers page or message us for a private conversation. Any appointment is subject to regulatory and company requirements.
