The types of financial advisors in Singapore

Tied agents represent a single insurer and can only recommend that insurer's products. Bank relationship managers advise within the bank's shelf. Licensed financial advisory firms — like Infinity Financial Advisory, which Affinity Group represents — hold a Financial Adviser's Licence from MAS and can advise across multiple insurers and investment providers.

This distinction matters. When your advisor can compare providers, recommendations are shaped by your needs rather than by a single product catalogue.

How financial advice is regulated

Financial advisory in Singapore is governed by the Financial Advisers Act and supervised by MAS. Representatives must pass the relevant Capital Markets and Financial Advisory Services (CMFAS) examinations, be notified to MAS under the Representative Notification Framework, meet fit-and-proper criteria and complete continuing professional development every year.

MAS's Balanced Scorecard framework also assesses representatives on the quality of their advice — not just sales — including whether recommendations are suitable and properly documented. Infinity Financial Advisory's compliance team reviews advice and marketing to these standards, and Affinity's own Surge Engine screens every piece of client-facing content against the same rules.

What comprehensive financial advisory covers

  • Protection: life, critical illness, disability, hospitalisation and long-term care planning.
  • Retirement: CPF LIFE, Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS), annuities and drawdown strategy.
  • Investment: diversified portfolios through unit trusts, ILPs and regular reviews.
  • Estate & legacy: wills, Lasting Power of Attorney, CPF and insurance nominations, trusts.
  • Tax efficiency: CPF top-ups, SRS contributions and relief-eligible structures.
  • Business: employee benefits, keyman protection, buy-sell funding, succession and corporate risk.

The Affinity Group approach

Affinity Group is a group of 31 Financial Adviser Representatives representing Infinity Financial Advisory Pte Ltd, based at 10 Eunos Road 8. We combine the reach of a licensed FA firm with the accountability of a close team: every advisor is supported by a full-time operations team for research, seminars, partnerships and administration, and by leadership that reviews advice quality, not just production.

Our advisors specialise. Some focus on young families and protection; others on retirement and CPF, high-net-worth estate planning, or SME employee benefits and business protection. You are introduced to the advisor whose specialism fits your situation.

Recognition and standards

The team includes MDRT, Court of the Table and Top of the Table qualifiers, multiple CFP®, ChFC®/S and AEPP® holders, and Infinity FA's Top Employee Benefits & General Insurance Advisor for five consecutive years. Our advisors have been featured by CNA, MDRT and international business press. Recognition is a by-product of doing the work well; it is never a guarantee of results.
